Food insecurity is a pressing issue across Connecticut, affecting families in every community.
According to Connecticut Foodshare, more than 516,000 residents—1 in 7 people—struggle with hunger, and 1 in 6 children (about 122,000) are food insecure. Even in one of the wealthiest states, the need for food assistance is significant and growing. Since 2020, the food-insecure population has increased by over 152,000 individuals.
Why It Matters:
Food insecurity impacts health, education, and overall well-being. Families often face hunger due to sudden job loss, illness, or rising costs for essentials like healthcare and utilities. To close the meal gap, Connecticut needs nearly 98 million meals each year.
