A long-term, residential treatment facility for pregnant and parenting women who desire to live a clean and sober life. Located in Middletown, the Hallie House for Women and Children provides substance abusing women, a safe, home-like environment where they can learn life and parenting skills to be a better mother. Relapse prevention assists the clients in maintaining their sobriety along with developing coping skills to better deal with stresses in their life. In a ceremony on November 22, 2005, the program was renamed from the Women and Children’s Center to the Hallie House in memory of Philip and Doris Hallie. Philip served as board president for over 10 years until his death, and his wife Doris also served on boards within the agency until her untimely death in 2005. In order for treatment to be effective for parenting women, it needs to be able to address these gender differences in promoting and maintaining sobriety after re-entry in the community.
