Designed to provide counseling, HIV testing, and education to all individuals with a primary focus on those at high risk or those already infected by being proactive for health instead of reactive to the disease.
The Health Services/HIV program is available to people within programs of The Connection. The program is dedicated to serve, to the best ability, high risk and already infected individuals while being committed to proactive health.
There is a multitude of ways in which the program is designed to meet its mission.
• All services are completely free and confidential for clients/significant others/family.
• The client/partner, may receive education about HIV/Hepatitis/Tuberculosis and STD transmission, epidemiology, and prevention as well as information on where they may go to further this education.
• Risk reduction counseling and referrals are available on request, which includes optional HIV testing.
• Counseling for individuals already infected helps the program stay proactive in helping the client stay healthy by utilizing many community-based referrals for group, support and medical services.
• Crisis intervention, supportive counseling, and information on nutrition, acupuncture, herbs, exercise, massage as well a number of other alternative treatments round out our programs aim at individualizing the client’s options for education, risk reduction and referral.
It takes about $11 to give an individual the vital information related to disease prevention, around the cost of going to a movie.
In relation, it may cost upwards of $150,000 to treat someone once they are infected with a disease.
