Ruoppolo Manor Supportive Housing

The Ruoppolo Manor Supportive Housing Program, formerly of ALSO-Cornerstone, enables community agencies to collaborate in offering services to at-risk populations.  It is administered in collaboration with the Housing Authority of New Haven.

Ruoppolo serves 25 individuals who are homeless or at risk of being homeless and who have either a dual diagnosis of mental illness and substance abuse, or a history of substance abuse with at least a year in treatment. Because Ruoppolo Manor is a Housing Authority of New Haven facility, clients must be on the Ruoppolo Manor Housing list in order to be accepted into the program.

The program includes development of a comprehensive plan of service for each client, including:

  • Case management (Coordination of vocational, employment, financial, psychiatric, medical and social services)
  • Daily living skills training
  • Supportive housing
  • Crisis intervention
  • Medication supervision when  needed
  • Recreational activities
  • Assistance with transportation
  • Men's and women's motivational groups
  • Substance Abuse Prevention Training for Seniors (TIPS for Seniors)

Client programming includes traditional 12-step groups and substance abuse prevention groups, as well as motivational and life skills groups. Discussions may range from spirituality to anger management. Weekly discussions of current events are an integral part of the programming, as are life skills groups where guests from a variety of disciplines speak. A high point of the programming is the “Community Involvement” program, where every resident of Ruoppolo Manor, irrespective of their affiliation with the Ruoppolo Supportive Housing program is invited for an afternoon of games, movies and other recreational activities.
