Robert T. Wolfe Supportive Housing

The Robert T. Wolfe (RTW) Supportive Housing Program, formerly of ALSO-Cornerstone, is housed at the Robert T. Wolfe Apartments near New Haven's train station. The program is provided in partnership with the Housing Authority of  New Haven (HANH) and is funded by grants from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and HANH. In order to be accepted into the program, clients must be on the RTW housing list.  Under the terms of the agreement with DMHAS, twelve of the 25 clients served by RTW are Housing Authority clients and thirteen are DMHAS clients.

RTW serves 25 individuals who are homeless or at risk of being homeless and who have either a dual diagnosis of mental illness and substance abuse, or a history of substance abuse with at least one year in treatment.

Client programming includes traditional 12-step groups and substance abuse prevention as well as motivational and life skills groups. Clients are assigned case-managers upon entering the program. The daily structure includes participation in meditation groups, dual diagnosis groups, behavioral management, substance abuse prevention, and 12-step meetings.

The Program includes development of a comprehensive plan of service for each client including:

  • Case Management (Coordination of vocational, employment, financial, psychiatric, medical and social services)
  • Daily living skills training
  • Supportive housing
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Daily living skills training
  • Medication supervision (if needed)
  • Recreational activities
  • Assistance with transportation

A significant point of the programming is the “Community Involvement” program, where every resident of RTW, irrespective of their affiliation with the RTW Supportive Housing program is invited for an afternoon of games, movies and other recreational activities.
