Connecting Children and Families

Connecting Children and Families is a professional foster care program of The Connection with the mission to find and supervise professional foster homes for children who are at risk of being placed in long-term residential psychiatric settings.

Connecting Children and Families is a statewide, short-term foster care program designed to bring together children who have special needs with families who can provide the extra supports that these children require. Some of the children are developmentally disabled, may display inappropriate behavior, or have autistic characteristics. Many of the children enter the program at a young age and stay with it until adulthood.  Whenever possible, Connecting Children and Families makes every attempt to place childen with families who will consider adopting the child.  By encouraging adoption, children placed in these foster homes can look forward to becoming happy, self-sufficient and productive adults.

We recruit caring professionals who have had formal training and experience in the human services field to be foster parents. Some of the professions represented are teachers, social workers, psychologists and nurses.

Services provided include:

  • Pre-service and in-service training for foster families
  • Individual therapy for the child
  • Assist parents advocate for appropriate education
  • Assist parents in planning and arranging community activities
